10 employers for building a career while continuing to live in Kyoto

Kyoto is famous as a tourism city, but it is also home to major companies in games, electronic components, measurement technology, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, finance, and apparel. This is not a ranking; it is a gateway to detailed guides on ten companies.

Graduate in Kyoto and build your career here.

Many students move to Tokyo or Osaka when they graduate, but a large-company career does not automatically mean leaving Kyoto. The city is home to manufacturers and entertainment companies serving global markets, as well as financial institutions supporting the regional economy.

Company articles mainly review publicly available 2025 graduate employment data for Kyoto University, Doshisha University, Ritsumeikan University, and Kyoto Institute of Technology. If a headcount cannot be confirmed, we say so rather than guessing.

About average salary data: As a rule, we use the latest “average annual salary” disclosed in securities reports. It is the average for the reporting company and includes bonuses and extra wages; it is not the same as starting salary or pay by job type. For SCREEN we use the holding company figure, for Wacoal the separately disclosed Wacoal Corp. figure, and for Bank of Kyoto the last comparable figure before the transition to a holding-company structure.
Universities and companies do not publish employment headcounts in one standardized format. Sources such as University Communications Online and JOB-BIKI use different methods, and being outside a published ranking does not mean zero hires. Each article states its sources and cautions.
